A Meta-Analysis on the Eeffects of Expressive Arts Therapy Interventions for Traumatized Victims

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to explore the effectiveness of the expressive arts therapy interventions for traumatized victims through a Meta-Analysis, and to establish the basis for effective expression art therapy intervention strategies by analyzing the effects of variables of various treatment interventions. 61 data were extracted from 26 experimental and quasiexperimental studies published from 2003 to 2017, and random effect models were used to calculate individual effect sizes and average effect size. Meta Anova was used to analyze the moderating effect of each variable. As a result, average effect size of the expressive arts therapy interventions for traumatized victims was 1.43, which is respectively big. Also the heterogeneity of the effect sizes was found to be considerably big, so it was analyzed by variables. As a result, the elements which affected the effect size were the type of intervention, the type of trauma, and the age of the subjects, and the effect size was the biggest when it was art therapy intervention, Type I trauma, and on the adult groups.
